470 Vanderbilt Brooklyn, NY 11238
Grand Opening: January 20th, 2018 5pm - 8pm
Gallery Hours: Wednesday - Sunday 12pm - 6pm

You’re invited to the Grand Opening of No. 1 Pretty! No. 1 Pretty offers a full-service treatment that brings you through a transformational journey of self-care and discovery. Within our dreamlike facilities, this reciprocally-guided experience will move you through a path of indefinite but sequential experiences. Each stage is informed by adolescent memories of hazily existing spaces. Our mission is to make your experience one of total self-engagement that will have you leaving with at least one new question and one new nail. Escape the busy city and enter the brand new. We invite you to be in a place both familiar and unknown, where rituals are used as a means to access the unconscious and dreams become latent offerings to self.

Walk-ins welcome during Grand Opening.
Offerings accepted after service.
We look forward to seeing you real soon.

About the Artist:
Aya Rodriguez-Izumi (b.1986, Okinawa, Japan) is a Harlem-based artist. She received a BFA from Parsons in 2009 and an MFA from The School of Visual Arts in 2017. No. 1 Pretty is informed by memories from her childhood in both New York and Japan and her experience as a nail artist. Ritual is a central element in her work, with a focus on how everyday activities and objects can take on ritualistic significance.

Her work has been shown in exhibitions at El Museo del Barrio, RUSH Gallery, Sotheby’s Institute of Art, the University of Pittsburgh, Space Heater Gallery, and Knockdown Center along with projects in conjunction with PULSE Contemporary Art Fair, FLUX Art Fair, and the Lower Manhattan Cultural Council, among many others. Rodriguez-Izumi is a current fellow of A.I.R. Gallery in DUMBO, Brooklyn where she is preparing for her spring 2018 solo exhibition Project Iceberg.
